The arteries are le elastic and have chalky deposits in their coats. The muscles diminish in size and undergo fatty degeneration; this weakening of muscle fiber is especially noticed in the heart. The secretions diminish and vital functions are sluggish. One would expect digestive disturbance, imperfect circulation (with cold extremities), imperfect action of the secretory organs (especially the kidneys) and faulty respiration.
