Baccharis

[From Bacchus; its fragrance resem. bling that of wine.] A genus of the ord. Asteraceæ. They are shrubby plants with alternate leaves and white flowers. The Groundsel-tree, B. halimi folia, ( Fig. 260,) is a large rambling shrub, found from Maryland to Florida, on the sea-coast; height 8 to 10 feet. Its white flowers, which blo om in Sept., have a tint of purple, and resemble those of the groundsel, but are larger.
