, a public entertainment at Sparta, where much frugality was observed, as the word ( φειδιτια , from φειδομαι , parco ) denotes. Persons of all ages were admitted; the younger frequented it as a school of temperance and sobriety, where they were trained to good manners and useful knowledge, by the example and discourse of their elders.
