Naval Wing Royal Flying Corps, Aeroplane Section

There is a special Air Department at the Admiralty with Captain M. F. Sueter, as Director, Commander O. Schwann and Lieut. C. L'Estrange-Malone, as A istants, Eng. Lieut. G. W. S. Aldwell, as Eng. Inspector. Officers are graded Flying Officers, then Flight Commanders, thence to Squadron Commanders. The flying school is at East church, Sheppey. Commander Sampson, S.C., in command. There are at present four air stations: (1) Isle of Grain, (2) Calshot, (3) Harwich, (4) Yarmouth. At the end of March, 1913, the total number of aeroplanes including those on order, school machines, etc., was about 32; of which about 16 were effective for war purposes or available at short notice. These machines were as follows:—
