A lower homologue of rosaniline, prepared by heating a mixture of commercial aniline and dry arsenic acid in a sealed tube to 170°. It forms light-brown crystals, soluble in ether, benzol, and alcohol; insoluble in water. Its salts, especially the acetate and hydrochloride, crystallize readily, forming beautiful crystals of a greenish hue and metallic luster. Mauvaniline salts are soluble in hot or acidulated water, and dye silk and wool fine purple-red tints.
