(1833-1912), Canadian-Irish politician; Prime Minister, Ontario (1870-72); M.P. South Long ford (Ireland), 1892-1907. an American inventor. Graduated from Yalein 1816. After graduating he joined his uncle Eli Whitney in the manufacture of fire arms and founded near New Haven, Conn., the first factory for the manufacture of domestic hardware. He invented a stone crusher used in road making and mining which soon found world-wide use.
