Der went water

James Radclyffe, Earl of, one of the leaders in the English rebellion of 1715; born in London, June 28, 1689; was educated in France. He succeeded as 3d ear! in 1705, on the death of his father. The history of the Earl of Der went water becomes the history of the rebellion of 1715 (see JacoBITES), which ended in the disastrous encounter at Preston, where Der went water was taken prisoner and conveyed to the Tower of London. Impeached of high treason at the opening of Parliament, he was brought to trial in Westminster Hall, when he pleaded guilty and threw himself on the mercy of the king. Every effort was made to obtain a pardon, all exertions were in vain, and he was beheaded on Tower Hill, Feb. 24, 1716. He is the hero of a touching ballad of the day, and of “Dorothy Forster,” Mr. Besant’s charming romance.
