ALLEN, David Oliver

[s. 34] : Bom in Barre, Ma ., graduated at Amherst 14, 1799; College, 1825; graduated at And over Theological Seminary, 1827; ordained and sailed as a mi ionary of the American Board for India, June There he was connected with the 6, 1827. mi ion pre for many years. In 1847 an edition of the whole Bible in Marathi, translated by the members of the two mi ions, was revised by Mr. Allen, editorial superintendent of the American Mi ion Pre , and member of the Committee of the Bombay Bible Society. Dr. Allen was a faithful worker and wise counselor. His services, especially in connection with the pre and the translation of the Scriptures, were of great value to the mi ionary cause. Dr. Allen published a valuable work on India, September Ancient and Modem, and was the author of several articles in periodicals. He resided at Lowell, Ma ., from 1860 until his death, from congestion of the lungs, July 17, 1863. 34
