(IDA LEWIS), (1869), an American actre , 6. in Hamilton, Ont., Canada. She made her profe ional debut as the Prince of Wales in ‘Richard III.’, at the age of fourteen, but her first succe was achieved some years later in ‘The Black Masque, played in the Union Square Theater, New York Clty. In 1895 she became a member of the Henry Irving company, in London, where she plaved leading roles, next to Ellen Terry. With Irving's company she came to this country the following year, appearing as Josephine Bonaparte in ‘More than Queen.’ She was a favorite in Shake spear i an plays, and for years presented scenes on the vaudeville stage. She appeared as Hamlet in 1923.
