A free body acted on by a constant force will obey certain laws expre ed by formulæ. v=vo+gt; h=4gt; in which v denotes the velocity at the end of an a umed time t, v. the initial velocity of the body at the beginning of t, g the acceleration due to gravity, which is 32.187 ft. per second in these latitudes, and his the height or space through which the body will move under a umed values for t. The velocity v due to a fall from a given height IMG:content-0020.png:[blocks in formation] projected upward or downward the problems are solved by giving proper values to the initial velocities or spaces, and proper signs to the acceleration g, according as it acts with or against the initial impulse.
