Warrant

wor'rant, v. To make secure, guaranty against harm; to give authority to do or forbear; to support by authority or proof, justify; to declare with a urance. {Law.) To secure to (a grantee) an estate granted; to a ure; to indemnify against lo ; to secure to (a purchaser) the quality or quantity of the goods sold, as represented; to a ure (a thing sold) to the purchaser, — that to engage that the thing what appears or represented to be. — n. That which warrants or authorizes an instrument giving authority, or justifying the doing of anything. (Law.) A precept authorizing an officer to arrest, commit to prison, or execute a specified person, to search suspected premises, etc. That which vouches or insures for anything; guaranty; security; that which attests or proves; a voucher; a writing which authorizes a person to receive money or other thing. The person to whom land or other thing warranted. — Warranter, -or, n. One who warrants, gives authority, or legally empowers; one who a ures, or covenants to a ure; one who contracts to secure another in a right, or to make good any defect of title or quality. — Warranty, (Modern Law & Law of Contracts.) An engagement, expre or implied, that a certain fact regarding the subject of a contract or shall be, as expre ly or impliedly declared or promised to be. (Insurance Law.) A stipulation by a party insured, that certain things, relating to the subject of insurance, or affecting the risk, exist, or shall exist, or have been, or shall be done.
