Sac either internal or external to the body of animals, in which the early stages of the development of the young are pa ed when there is little or no nutriment pa ing from the mother to the young, the eggs being adequately supplied with food-yelk. Otherwise such a sac is a uterus, if internal, and a marsupium, if external. See EPHIPPIUM.
