Board

It is a common habit for members of the New York Stock Exchange, and in fact of any exchange, to speak of the exchange as the board. The expre ion “on the board” means on the exchange. The name may have been and very likely was derived from an earlier title of the New York Stock Exchange—‘New York Stock and Exchange Board.”; The largest speculative dealings in grain and provisions in the United States are conducted by a body officially designated as a board—the Chicago Board of Trade. The term board is also applied to the board in a broker’s office on which quotations are posted.
