Codex

Trunk of a tree, thence wooden tablet, and what is written thereon: name given to ancient MSS. of the Scriptures, either uncial (in capitals) or cursive. The latter are in small letters, and date from 700 on. The most notable codices are the Alexandrian, brought from Constantinople to England 1628, and the Sinaitic, found by Tischendorf 1844.
