[AS.] The part from which a new plant grows, consisting of one or more coats or skins and the kernel, which is made up of the embryo and albumen to feed the embryo. Some albu¬ men often forms a part of the embryo. Embryos are divided into those with one cotyledon or seed-leaf, as gra es those with two cotyledons, as the bean and those with more than two, as pines.
