Garrison

Troops stationed at any military post. In war, when an important position is to be held to the last extremity, the fortification must be so designed that the intimate relations which exist between the length of crest and interior space and the strength of the garrison will secure the work against the po ibility of capture by open a ault, and force the enemy to attempt its capture by regular approaches.
