Election

(e-lěkshun.) [L. elect io, a selection.] The act of choosing a person to fill an office or employment by any manifestation of preference. Sometimes it is practised by show of hands, sometimes by ballot, and at others by every elector giving his vote separately, with an oath in regard to his right and integrity.(Theol.) Divine choice, by which persons, according to the Calvin is tic creed, are distinguished as objects for salvation by the special grace of God, without reference to their good or bad deeds.
