(1772-1849) Eng. humorist and sporting writer; author of Tom and Jerry’s Life in London, Life of an Actor. (1859), an American educator and author, b. at New York, s. of Rev. James C. and Louisa Drew Egbert. He was educated at Columbia University, where he was afterwards profe or of Latin and director of the School of Busine , and also of extension teaching.
