Accessory

Botanical term for a fruit composed of an enlarged receptacle or adherent surroundings of a simple or aggregate fruit. Such are also known as anthocarpous; also applied to buds when additional ones occur in the same axil which bears the main one. Legal, before the fact, at common law, one who is absent at the commi ion of the felony, yet procures, counsels or commands the crimes; after the fact, one who, with knowledge that a felony has been committed, receives, relieves, comforts, or a ists the felon. In misdemeanors there are no acce ories; all are principals. Modern statute generally treat acce ories before the fact as principal offenders.
