[Gr. end on =within; ō8mos a thrusting; otheō = to thrust; and metron = a measure.] Mech.: An instrument invented by M. Dutrochet to measure the rapidity of the pa age of a le dense fluid through a membrane which separates it from a denser fluid. A simple form of the instrument is a trumpet-shaped tube with a membrane covering its bell mouth. The tube is filled with a solution of a given density and plunged into a solution of le er or greater density to ascertain by succe ive trials the relative rapidity of the endosmotic or exosmotic actions, or the action of different fluids. ěn-dos-mô-met-ric, a.
