river birch (riverberch)

A moderate-sized tree, Betula nigra, common southward in the eastern half of the United States, growing chiefly along streams. Its wood is used in the manufacture of furniture, wooden ware, etc. Also red birch . The alluvial river-bottom (riv'èr-bot"um), n. land along the margin of a river. See bottom, 3. [U.
