Chattanooga

city and county-seat of Hamilton Co., Tenn. I¢ is situated on high grounds at the foot of Lookout Mountain, and in the midst of picturesque scenery. It is the site of a National Soldiers’ ——h with over 13,000 graves, and the Chattanooga and Chick am aug a National Military Park. Chattanooga was settled in 1836, and was originally called Ro ’s landing. It was incorporated in 1851, and in 1863 was occupied and nearly destroyed by Union forces. It was the scene of three of the greatest battles of the Civil War: Chic nam aug a, Mi ionary Ridge. and Lookout Mountain. Chattels, property movable and immovable, not being freehold. The word chattels is originally the same word with cattle, all property being reckoned in early periods by the number of heads of cattle po e ed, or their equivalent.
