supination

[Lat. supinatio, from supino =to bend backward] 1. The act or state of lying or of being laid with the face upward. 2. The movement in which the forearm and hand are carried outward, so that the anterior surface of the latter becomes superior; the position of the hand extended outward with the palm upward. Opposed to pronation (q. v.). "They [the muscles] can perform flexion, extension, pronation, supination , the tonick motion, circumgyration."- Smith : Portrait of Old Age , p. 62.
