Pulsometer

An apparatus, by which water is raised and discharged by the direct action of entering steam, and the vacuum formed by its condensation, without the means of a piston, or other mechanical appliances beyond the nece ary valves, suction-, and discharge-pipes. It acts with a pulsating (intermittent) motion, depending only on a continuous supply of steam. See Plate 63. E. 1 Pump. A machine contrived for raising water by lifting or suction; ( also for forcing it through pipes etc., or for exhausting air and steam. from any receptacle. See Plates 53, 54, 55 & 68. । Single-acting-pump. One which raises during one stroke and discharges I during the other.
