BANTING

CURE, BANTINGISM, n°: Ba*nt’ing, -i2zm. Ger,, Banting-Cur, Banting-Kur. Banting-Diät, Entfettungskur. A dietetic method of reducing corpulence, consisting e entially in the use of lean meat, poultry, game, fruit, fresh vegetables (except pees, beets, turnips, and carrots), soft-boiled eggs, and cheese, ry wines being allowed, and in the avoidance of farinaceous, saccharine, and oily articles of food, especially bread, pastry, potatoes, butter, pork, herrings, eels, salmon, milk, beer, port, and champagne. The plan is so called after a Mr. Banting, a London merchant, who followed it in his own case, under the direction of a surgeon, and published an account of it. [A, 827; D, 1.]
