In Fortification, a stake used in laying out ground to mark the bounds and angles. Pickets are of various lengths, according to the purpose they are to serve. One end is sharp and shod with iron, and the other sometimes carries a small flag, for the purpose of rendering it visible at a distance. [s. 947]
