A confe ion of faith, sup I'll anciently to have been drawn iip by the apostles in selves, and deriving the title "Creed" from the word with which it begins in Latin (credo, I believe). With respect to its antiquity, it may be affirmed, that the greater part of its clauses is quoted by the apostolic father Ignatius; and that the whole, as it now stands in our liturgy, is to be found in the works of St. Ambrose, in the fourth century.
