Inhabitants of the region between the Caucasus and Persia; probably of Medeo-Persian descent. Their complexion is light, the eyes blue or gray. There are two castes. warriors and farmers. Their religion is a mixture of paganism IMG:content-0974.jpg:[graphic] and Mohammedanism. They are broken up into warring sects that hate the Christians and one another. They number ab. Kurds. 2,500,000, and are independent, fierce, and notorious as robbers and persecutors of the Armenians. Their language, called Kermanji, is derived from an old Persian dialect.
