(See Bourdon.) (See also Fig. 91.) Fairholt ( Costume in England ) gives the following quotation from an inventory of Green wich Palace, temp. Henry VIII. “A cane, garnished with sylver and gilte, with astronomie upon it. A cane, garnished with golde, having a perfume in the toppe, under that a diall, with a pair of twitchers, and a pair of compa es of golde, and a foot rule of golde, a knife and a file the haft of golde, with a whetstone tipped with golde.” Under Charles II. bunches of ribands on the tops of canes were fashionable.
