musang (musang′)

[Malay musang.] A viverroid mammal of the genus Paradox urus, P. hermaphroditus (also called P. musang a, P. Musang (Musang a fasci at a). typus, and P. fasci at us ), occurring throughout the countries east of the Bay of Bengal Burma, Siam, the Malay peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. It has the back generally striped, a pale band cro es the forehead, and the whiskers are black. The name extends to any paradoxure, and to some similar animals. The golden musang is P. aureus; the hill-musang is P. gray i; the three-striped white-eared musang is Arc to gale leucotis. See paradoxure.
