Lamb, CHARLES

1775-1834. English humorist, employed in E. India Co.'s London offices 1792-1825. His plays, John Woodvil, 1801, and Mr. H—, 1806, are le regarded than his Tales from Shakespeare, 1807, and Specimens of Dramatic Poets, 1808. His reputation rests chiefly on the E ays of Elia, 1823-33.-His sister, MARY ANN, 1765-1847, wrote some of the Tales.
