(pros’tat) (Gr. xpoordrns prostate; π' before + ἱστάναι to stand) A gland which in the male surrounds the neck of the bladder and the urethra. It consists of a median lobe and two lateral lobes, and is made up partly of glandular matter, the ducts from which empty into the prostatic portion of the urethra, and partly of muscular fibers which encircle the urethra.
