thyro-iodin

(thi-ro-i’o-din). Iodothyrin; an amorphous brown powder forming the principal therapeutic extractive of sheep’s thyroids. It is said to contain 9 per cent. of iodin and 0.5 per cent. of phosphorus. It has a stimulant effect upon the circulatory and nervous systems, and is used in myxedema, rickets. goiter, corpulency, etc., and in certain skin diseases. Dose, 4-12 gr. (0.25-0.75 gm.).
