[Gr. makrotomeō = to prune so as to leave the shoots long.] Bot.: A genus of Boraginacem. Macro tomia ben thami grows in the Him a lay as, and is considered useful in diseases of the tongue and throat. The bruised roots of M. perennis are applied in India to eruptions, and its root is used as a dye.
