Manure

Fertilizers composed of animal excrements mixed with litter and absorbents. It is subject to lo by fermentation, which di ipates the nitrogen into the air in the form of ammonia, and by leaching of the more readily soluble parts. Inert absorbents serve to take up the liquid aid pa parts and help to check fermentation, which may be further checked by closely packing the ma , thus excluding the air. Protection from rain is nece ary to prevent leaching of soluble elements of fertility. Average barnyard manure contains water 69 per cent, nitrogen 0.49, potash 0.43, phosphoric acid 0.32.
