A house or hut, constructed of blocks of snow. Capt. Lyon ( Private Journal, ch. iii.) thus describes some he saw in the Arctic regions: "Each dwelling might be averaged at fourteen or sixteen feet in diameter by six or seven feet in height IMG:content-1665.png:[blocks in formation] the foot is lifted, the toe elevates the forward end of the snow-shoe, which is then dragged along on the snow as the leg is advanced. They are usually from three to four feet in length, and a foot to eighteen inches broad in the middle.
