i. [Etym. doubtful.] To whimper, to whine, to act in an unmanly manner. "He fippilit lik ane faderles fole." Peebles to the Play , st. xxv. fip-ple, s. [Prob. from Lat. fibula =a brooch, a clasp.] A stopper. "In recorders, which go with a gentle breath, the concave of the pipe, were it not for the fipple that straiten eth the air much more than the simple concave, would yield no sound."- Bacon : Nat .
