Same as gla - soldering. gla -work (glas'werk), n. 1. The manufacture of articles of gla , gla for windows, and the like.-2. The objects produced in a gla -factory, especially ve els and utensils made of gla . gla -worker (glas' wėr kėr), n. One who works in gla ; one engaged in any capacity in the manufacture of gla . It must be left to practical gla -workers to determine whether a spiral form is the best for the tube. line shell. gla -shrimp (glas's hrimp), п. The larva of stomatopod ous crustaceans, as that of Squilla or Go no dactylus, in certain stages of development which have occasioned the spurious genera Alima and Erichthus. See Stomatopod a. gla -silvering (glas's ilver-ing), n. The art of covering gla with a metallic film which will serve as a reflecting surface, as for a reflector or looking-gla . In one method a sheet of tin-foil is laid upon a marble table and painted with mercury till an amalgam is formed. More mercury is added to form a shallow pool, and upon this the sheet of gla is laid and pre ed down to drive out bubbles. A thin film of amalgam clings to the gla , and forms the silver-like mirror. In another method bath consisting part of silver nitrate is employed, which forms an adherent film of silver on the gla . The second proce is used in sil vering hollow and convex gla ware.
