FILS, 1824–1895; son of the last. French dramatist. whose plays profe a social or ethical aim; Academician 1875. His novel La Dameaux Camelias, 1848, was dramatized 1852. Among his works are The Demimonde, 1855; The Natural Son, 1856; Мте. Aubray, 1867; M. Alphonse, 1873; Denise, 1885.
