(Lat.),n. f. A?n(aSn)-a2s(a8s)’’to-mo’si*s. Gen., anastomo’seos (-sis), Acc., anastomo's in. Gr., évaoréuwors (from. ävagtTouoÿv, to bring or be brought to a mouth or outlet, also to open wide). Fr., anastomose, Ger., Erweiterung (1st def.), Zusammenmiindung, Ineinandermündung (2d def.), Schärfen (4th def.), Verengerung (5th def.). It., an as tomos i. Sp., anastomdsis. Syn.: inosculation (q. v., also remarks under A BOUCHE MENT). 1. A dilatation of blood-ve els. [A, 322.] 2. The communication of an artery or vein with another artery or vein; le properly, that of one nerve with another; also the vascular or nervous branch by which such communication is established. [A, 322, 385; C; D, 92.] 3. A system of canals supposed by the ancients to serve for communication between the arteries and veins, Harvey disproved their existence. [H, 12.] 4. Fr., anastomose par convergence. A union of two arteries running in the same general direction, to form a common trunk. [L, 87.|—A. by inosculation. Fr., anastomose par inosculation (ou par arcade). The union of two ve els coming from opposite directions (like that of the intestinal arteries in the mesentery). [L, 87.]—A. by transverse communication. Lat., a. per ramun intermedium. Fr., anastomose par communication transverse (ou trans ver sale), A communication between two parallel ve els by means of a communicating (anastomotic) branch. [L, 87.]—A. Jacob son i i. A mutual interchange of fibres between two or more nerve trunks. [L,7.]—A. per coalitum. Syn.: coal it us arteriarum., The simple coalescence of two arteries so as to form one trunk of a calibre equal to the sum of the calibres of the two. [A,19.]—A. per dehiscent i am. A communication between two adjacent arteries for a small portion of their course, so that the entering and emergent branches together form a figure epmatltine like a cro .
