GLAUCUS

In Grecian Mytholo gy, the name of a marine deity, the son, according to some of the genealogists, of Neptune and one of the Naiads; ac cording to others, of Polybius and Alcyone. He enjoyed the power of prophecy. In Zoology, (ilaucus is the name of -a genus of Nudibranchiate Mollusks, remarkable for their beautiful aziwe tint. The species of Glaucus are found in the warmer latitudes floating in the open sea. [s. 534]
