cable railroad (ka blral"rod)

A street or other railroad in which the cars are moved by an endle cable traveling in a small tunnel under the roadway, and kept in motion by a stationary engine. Motion is communicated to the cars by means of a grip extended through a slot in the covering of the tunnel, and so arranged as to be under the control of the brakeman, Cable-laid Rope.
