Protest

A declaration made by a Ship-master and some of his crew, before a Notary, Consul, or other legal Authority, protesting against being made responsible for damage which may be found to have been sustained by his ship and/or the cargo, or by another ve el with which his own has been in collision; and reserving his rights of recovery against other parties who may be legally liable for it. A Charterer may also protest against the action of a Shipowner or Shipmaster.
