D.D. (Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, Penn., 1859), Luther an (General Synod); b. at York, Penn., Feb. 11, 1821; graduated at Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, Penn., and studied in Germany at Berlin and Halle. After a nine-months' pastorate at Middle town, Md., he became in 1845 profe or of Hebrew, German, and New-Testament exegesis, in the Gettysburg Theological Sem 107 inary, and served until 1848, and again from 1865 to the present time. From 1848 to 1849 he was pastor at Hanover, Penn.; and from 1850 to 1865, at Harrisbnrg. He is the author of Life of Captain Sees, llarrisburg, 1867; and, with Prof. Dr. H. E. Jacobs, translated Schmid's Doctrinal Theology of the Evangelical Luther an Church, Philadelphia, 1875.
