Ortho tom us (ortho tom us)

[NL.: see or thotomous.] A genus of gra -warblers or malurine warblers founded by Hors field in 1820; the tailor-birds. There are 10 or 12 species, ranging over the Oriental region. The type of the genus is O. sepium Tailor-bird of Java (Ortho tom us sepium). of Java, Sumatra, and other islands. In the longest-known species, O. long i cauda or O. sutoria, the middle tail-feathers are long-exserted. This form is often separated under the generic name Sutoria (which see). Also called Edela. orthotone (ôr thō-ton), a. and n. [ τονος, having the proper accent, taining or acquiring an accent in certain positions or combinations, but unaccented in others: especially noting proclitics and enclitics when accented. orthros II. n. A word or form, usually enclitic or proclitic, when exceptionally retaining or acquiring an accent. Thus, the English articles, usually proclitics, are orthotones when emphasized: as, I did not say a man, I said the man.
