Strike

(strik.) (Geol.) See DIP. (Pol. Econ.) The refusal of a body of workmen to pursue their labor until certain demands of theirs for higher pay, or other advantage, shall be granted by their employer or employers. When the latter resist such action on the part of their men, and close the workshops, the proceeding is known as a lock-out. [s. 860]
