[English smegmat (ite); -ic .] Resembling smegma tite (q. v.); having the nature or properties of soap; soapy, detersive, cleansing. směg-ma-tite, s. [Gr. smegma (gen it.smēgmatos)=an unguent; suff. -ite ( Min .).] Min.: A soapy clay, occurring at Plombières. Dana refers it to Montmorillonite (q. v.) smëir, s.
