ecthyma

(ek-thi’mah) (Gr. é out + θύειν to rush]. A pustular eruption, usually seated on a hardened base, and encircled by an inflammatory area. The pustules discharge, leaving spots of pigmented cicatrization. It is often the result of filth, hunger, and parasites. Θ. gang r no’sum, dermatitis gangrznosa infantum. e. syphilit’- icum, an ecthymiform eruption in tertiary syphilis.
