[Eng. bent (2), and -ing. ] Pertaining to bents. Benting time: The time when (it is said) pigeons feed on bents, before peas are ripe. "Bare benting times and moulting months may come." Dryden: Hend & Panther iii. 1,283. [ Brazilian .] The Brazilian name of a bird ( Tyrannus sul phuratus , Vieillot). It belongs to the Laniadæ, or Shrike family. běn-tiv-i, ben-tiv-ě-ō, 8. běnt'-wood, s . [BINDWOOD.] A name given in the border counties of England and Scotland to the Common Ivy ( Hedera helix ).
