Chartism

( Eng. Hist.) The political doctrines of a CHARTIST, q. v. Char'tist, n . [From CHARTER.] ( Eng . Hist .) One of a defunct political party in England, composed chiefly of the working cla es, who embodied their principles in a document called the People's Charter , the six leading points of which were: 1. Universal Suffrage; 2. Vote by Ballot; 3. Annual Parliaments; 4. Electoral Districts; 5. Abolition of Property Qualification; and 6. Payment of Members of Parliament.
